Cursus: Value Chain Finance
Training period:

Leveraging linkages to improve smallholders’ access to finance
Smallholders need access to finance to operate and to invest in their business. By using the links between smallholders and their suppliers and buyers, commercially sustainable financial services can be developed that match the needs of smallholders in the value chain. Improving financial flows along the chain leads to improved performance for all chain actors.
Participants:
You are an experienced value chain practitioner, aiming to link value chain actors to an emerging financial sector. You are working for a financial institution, aiming to serve rural and agricultural clients and have participated in the VCD course or have obtained value chain insights elsewhere.
Course Objectives:
By the end of the course you will be able to recognise the financial flows and needs within value chains. You will learn to analyse the financial needs of smallholders, as well as the banker’s perspective on smallholder clients. You will understand how to increase the creditworthiness of smallholders and improve the provision of financial services based on their position in the chain.
You will learn to assess the advantages and conditions of the various financial products available to the chain actors and financial institutions. You will learn how to use potential donor instruments to motivate stakeholders to take action.
This course is designed and conducted in association with Hans Posthumus Consultancy and Triodos Facet.
