Cursus: Management course for Development Practitioners

Training Period:
English & French: 20 August – 14 September 2012

Contribute to development – become a successful manager
The international debates on Aid Effectiveness are changing the way projects are planned and implemented. This is making managerial responsibilities and tasks even more multi-faceted than in the (recent) past. This course will equip you with essential management tools and will strengthen your skills to become a successful manager.

Participants:
You are a manager, coordinator or head of department of a government or non-governmental organisation. You have at least three years professional work experience in projects or programmes, and you are interested in “what is really going on” in the field of international development cooperation.

Course Objectives:
This 4-week course is based on the Butterfly framework of competences, developed by MDF; a metaphor for the performance of a manager of a development organisation. This course is centred around roles and tasks of a manager of a development intervention, within the context of contemporary aid modalities. You will be able to apply a series of tools and methods that will allow you to reflect on and enhance your skills as manager, enhancing teamwork and cooperation with external stakeholders. You will make a field trip to relate classroom learning with the reality of organisational performance.
