Human Rights and Human Development: Foundations and Issues
A Workshop Celebrating 25 years of the Declaration on the Right to Development
Monday, September 5, 2011
at The Hague Institute for Global Justice
Greetings from the Human Rights, Development and Capabilities Thematic Group, a subset of the Human Development and Capability Association! As you know, this year’s HDCA conference will take place on September 6-8 in The Hague. Our thematic group is gathering for a 1-day workshop on the human rights aspects of human development and capabilities. The Hague Institute for Global Justice has generously agreed to host us on Monday, September 5th.
Last year’s well-attended HDCA conference was on the theme of “Human Rights and Human Development” and generated some demand for a workshop covering the “basics” as well as more complex issues in this field. With this in mind, and to celebrate 25 years of the Declaration on the Right to Development, our thematic group is organizing just such an event. The workshop is open to all HDCA members, conference attendees, and the general public.
The following program is subject to change as we continue to contact potential speakers. However, some expert practitioners and academics have already confirmed their participation, and we think that anyone with an interest in the interaction between human rights and human development, as well as the Capability Approach, will find the workshop to be very valuable! This workshop is free of charge; participants are welcome to attend all or part of the event.
