SAVE THE DATE: 31st August 13.30 – 17.30
Pakhuis de Zwijger Amsterdam.
The Agri-ProFocus partnership and Oxfam Novib are happy to invite you to an expert meeting on the theme “Who will feed the World”. Leading scientists and food industry representatives will reflect on this question and the current debate around it.
The debate “Who will feed the World” is held at very many levels, in very many fora and based on numerous ideologies. The debate is topical and driven by concerns around climate change, food prices, land and water grabbing and failing international markets. Oxfam launched its GROW! campaign with a report and produced a background report focusing specifically on the production challenge. For Agri-ProFocus this challenge is at the core of its mission: promoting farmer entrepreneurship in developing countries!
During this expert meeting Oxfam Novib will present the issues based on the Oxfam research report: the production challenge. Dr Jan Kees Vis, Global Director Sustainable Sourcing Development, Unilever and Mr. Jos van Campen, Royal Cosun, will discuss the issues from the food industry perspective. Leading scientists Prof Dr Rudy Rabbinge, of the Wageningen University and Research Center (WUR) and board member of AGRA, and Prof Dr Jan Douwe van der Ploeg, Professor of Rural Sociology at WUR, and author of, among many others, the book “The New Peasantries, Struggles for Autonomy and Sustainability in an Era of Empire and Globalization” will comment on the production options presented. Other speakers to be confirmed. All speakers will give their reactions to the question “Who will Feed the World”, based on their academic work or food industry challenges. Facilitator Evelijne Bruning, Director of the Hunger Project, will assure that the audience fully participates in the debate.
The meeting will be of interest to all professionals working on issues around food security, agriculture and rural development.
